MATLAB Launches Student Ambassadorship Programme at UNILAG with Support from NgREN
The Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN), in partnership with global software developer MathWorks, has successfully facilitated the selection of a MATLAB Student Ambassador for the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Following a structured and inclusive selection process, Mr. Ibrahim Gbadegesin, a student of UNILAG, emerged as the newly appointed ambassador.
The MATLAB Student Ambassador Programme is an international initiative designed to promote the use of MATLAB and Simulink in teaching, research, and innovation across universities. By supporting this process, NgREN played a pivotal role in enabling a collaborative bridge between Nigerian academia and international technology partners.
Representing NgREN in this initiative, Mr. Abdulkarim Suleiman emphasized the importance of equipping Nigerian students with globally recognized tools and platforms that foster innovation and skill development. “The emergence of Ibrahim Gbadegesin as the MATLAB Student Ambassador is a reflection of the talent within our university system, and a testament to what is possible when local institutions collaborate with global partners,” said Suleiman.
NgREN’s participation in the programme underscores its ongoing commitment to fostering innovation, capacity development, and digital transformation within Nigeria’s higher education ecosystem. As part of its mandate, NgREN continues to serve as a facilitator of strategic partnerships that enhance knowledge-sharing and empower students to engage with cutting-edge tools and global academic practices.
The selection process for the ambassador at UNILAG was marked by broad national representation and strong institutional support. NgREN ensured that the process was inclusive and reflective of the diversity across Nigerian universities, while also maintaining global standards of transparency and merit-based selection.
As Student Ambassador, Ibrahim Gbadegesin will lead awareness campaigns, peer training, and academic outreach to promote the use of MATLAB and Simulink within UNILAG and beyond. His role will also serve as a model for other institutions, as NgREN and MathWorks explore the possibility of expanding the initiative to more Nigerian universities.
This achievement highlights NgREN’s strategic role in aligning Nigeria’s research and education institutions with global innovation platforms and in supporting student-led efforts that advance technological integration in higher education.
Congratulations, Ibrahim! We wish you success in your additional responsibility.
